A Legacy of Craftsmanship
The Cusumano family’s legacy in construction dates back to Brooklyn in the 1920s, where the family first entered the building industry through the operation of a cement block shop. From those early beginnings, the business evolved into residential construction, with some of the family’s first homes built in Bensonhurst along 18th Avenue and 81st Street. These projects established an early reputation for quality craftsmanship, structural integrity, and work built to stand the test of time.
The Great Depression brought construction operations to a halt, prompting the family to relocate to Queens. Despite the challenges of the era, the Cusumano family remained committed to the building trade. By the late 1940s, construction resumed, with fathers and sons working alongside one another to rebuild the business and its reputation through disciplined craftsmanship, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to quality.
Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the family’s presence in the construction industry continued to grow. Brothers and extended family members established their own paths within the trade, while remaining connected by a shared philosophy: build with precision, take responsibility for the work, and earn trust through the quality of the finished product.
Each generation that followed was raised with a firsthand understanding of the building process. Time spent on job sites became an education in far more than construction—it instilled the importance of accountability, leadership, attention to detail, and pride in workmanship. The knowledge of the trade was passed from one generation to the next, preserving decades of experience while continually adapting to new methods, materials, and standards.
Today, Cusumano Custom Homes & Remodeling is led by Dominick Jr. and Joseph Cusumano, who represent the current generation of family leadership. Having grown up immersed in the industry, they now oversee the company’s day-to-day operations, bringing a modern and highly personalized approach to custom homebuilding and remodeling while preserving the principles on which the family’s reputation was built. Dominick Sr. remains actively involved, contributing the perspective and seasoned expertise gained through decades of experience in the field.
Nearly a century after the family first entered the construction industry, Cusumano Custom Homes & Remodeling continues to carry that legacy forward. The company remains grounded in the values that have guided generations of the Cusumano family: thoughtful oversight, transparent communication, disciplined execution, exceptional craftsmanship, and an enduring commitment to building homes that are made to last.
